inux Systems Engineer – Infrastructure Operations Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Linux Systems Engineer to support, troubleshoot, and optimize enterprise Linux environments. This role focuses on system reliability, performance analysis, storage troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation of complex Linux issues, including processes stuck in uninterruptible sleep, also known as D-State. Key Responsibilities Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot Linux servers across production and non-production environments. Investigate system performance issues related to CPU, memory, disk I/O, networking, filesystems, and kernel behavior. Diagnose processes stuck in D-State using tools such as ps, top, iotop, iostat, vmstat, strace, lsof, dmesg, journalctl, and /proc. Analyze kernel logs, hung task reports, I/O wait, blocked processes, filesystem errors, and storage path failures. Troubleshoot NFS, CIFS, iSCSI, SAN, LVM, multipath, XFS, EXT4, and device-mapper related issues. Work with application, network, storage, and database teams to resolve infrastructure incidents. Perform root cause analysis and document findings, remediation steps, and preventive actions. Support patching, kernel updates, system hardening, capacity planning, and automation initiatives. Create and maintain operational runbooks for Linux troubleshooting and incident response. Required Qualifications 3+ years of hands-on Linux systems administration experience. Strong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, or similar distributions. Solid understanding of Linux process states, system calls, kernel logs, filesystems, and storage subsystems. Experience troubleshooting high I/O wait, hung tasks, blocked processes, and system performance degradation. Familiarity with shell scripting and automation using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar tools. Working knowledge of monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk. Ability to analyze logs and communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Experience with enterprise storage, NFS, iSCSI, multipath, VMware, cloud platforms, or Kubernetes. Knowledge of crash dump analysis, kdump, crash, perf, sar, and advanced Linux performance tools. Experience supporting regulated or high-availability production environments. Relevant certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, Linux+, or LPIC. Example Interview Topics Explain what D-State means in Linux. Describe how you would troubleshoot a process that cannot be killed.
